How to Clean Synthetic Leather Sofa

The elegance and softness of genuine leather may be found in modern synthetic leather furniture. This cruelty-free “vegan leather” choice is great for individuals who want to avoid using items derived from animals. In addition, maintaining the appearance of synthetic leather is much simpler. To do it correctly, follow this guide on how to clean synthetic leather sofa.

Taking Care of Synthetic Leather Furniture

Synthetic leather furniture only takes a few minutes of maintenance each week to retain a like-new appearance. Stain removal is virtually as simple, making this an excellent option for families with children or pets.

1.    Vacuum Once a Week

Everyday detritus like dirt and dust often damage fake leather furniture. This means you should use the soft brush attachments once a week to clean the whole vacuum thoroughly. Remember to clean under furniture cushions as well by lifting them. Just change to the crevice attachment to clean any seams or tufted areas. Deodorize fake leather by sprinkling it with baking soda and waiting half an hour before cleaning.

2.    Towel Off as Required

Clean imitation leather using a block of mild dish soap and warm water, then wipe it down with a microfiber towel soaked with mere water to remove any remaining soap residue. Soaps with antibacterial or degreasing compounds might damage synthetic leather, so pick carefully. It’s recommended to use Castile soap for this purpose. Artificial leather surfaces may be cleaned with water, but a dry towel is still recommended to prevent wet marks.

3.    Get Rid of the Mess

Stains on imitation leather or white vinyl furniture may be easily removed with some rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth. However, it’s important to remember that color transfer stains (from lying on your synthetic leather couch in brand new jeans, for example) might be difficult, if not impossible, to remove. If the discoloration persists after rubbing alcohol has been applied, try dabbing it with some white vinegar. You may need to do this many times to get the stain out entirely. When it’s gone, use a cloth wet with water and a towel to dry the area.

4.    Disinfect If Needed

If a family member becomes sick or the family pet has an accident when housetraining, you may wish to clean the furniture they have been using. Vinyl and imitation leather are much easier to clean than real leather. Make a solution of chlorine bleach and water, using about 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, then apply it using a moist cloth or a spray bottle. After 5 minutes, wash the area with a clean cloth dampened with plain water to remove any remaining disinfectant.

5.    Don’t Forget to Moisturize it.

Faux leather, if left uncared for, may dry out and break over time. You should still moisturize it to avoid cracks, even if careful not to expose it to open air, as you should with any furniture. It is recommended to condition vinyl or synthetic leather twice per year or more frequently in dry conditions. If you prefer, you may use a soft cloth dipped in palm or olive oil to clean your imitation leather, but be sure to test a small, concealed area first in case the oil darkens the color.
