How to clean a kitchen bin

No matter how well-kept your kitchen is, a dirty kitchen bin will quickly become apparent. In spite of your best efforts to keep everything inside the bin liner, something always manages to sneak through and leave a stench or even produce the dreaded bin juice! Bleugh! Don’t worry, a spotless kitchen bin is just around the corner, and we’ve got some terrific advice on how to keep it like that way for as long as possible.

Grab a pair of gloves

Rubber gloves are a must for this task, since the dumpster may get rather soiled if it’s not been washed in a while..

Get rid of the trash.

Empty the kitchen bin and look for any large bits of food or packaging that might clog your drains later by removing them now. If your bin is of this kind, you will need to remove the inner receptacle from the outer container.

Rinse and repeat.

If you have access to a garden hose or a water container, this should be done outdoors. As an alternative, you might clean your garbage can in the bathtub or the shower. To begin, thoroughly rinse the entire bin (interior and exterior) to remove any food particles that may have been lodged in its structure. After that, quarter-fill the inner container with warm water and dishwashing solutions before scrubbing everything with a stiff brush. As you clean the inside of your trash, don’t forget to wipe off the outside as well. Finish by giving everything a good rinse.

Dry and disinfect the area.

Using a disinfecting spray and a lot of kitchen paper, thoroughly clean the trash. If you’ve a touch-open system, you’ll want to pay special care to the lid. Now is the time to let your container to totally dry out. And we mean it in the most literal sense. Moisture can rapidly produce a wonderful growing environment for germs in the bin if you let it to return.

Add a last touch.

Several things may be done to prolong the freshness of your bin after it has dried out. If you want your bin to last as long as possible, it’s best to include a moisture-sucking material. Be sure to add some baking powder or even a new mound of kitty litter to the bottom of the bin before placing the bin liner. A few drops of essential oil, such as green tea or bergamot, may offer an additional layer of smell.

What to pay special attention to:

Use antimicrobial spray disinfectant and paper towels to wipe off the bin top and edges on a regular basis. This should become a routine element of your cleaning schedule if you stick with it. Clean and sanitize the trashcan completely with heated water as well as a liquid disinfectant once a week for a deep clean. Squeeze out as much as possible of the bin’s foul odours using a stiff brush and concentrate on the bottom. If you have one, you may also use a pressure washer.

It’s done,  Your kitchen will no longer be filled with foul odours every time the garbage can is opened. Now that you’ve removed your rubber gloves, you may take a breather.
