If you are a coffee lover and a cleanliness freak at the same time, you will definitely get worried looking at your dirty glass coffee carafe. Often times you might have had to complete your breakfast in minutes and rush to work, which might have left you with no time for washing your coffee carafe.
When you realise this the next day, you may notice leftover coffee and brown stains on it. Now you might wonder, “OMG, how do I clean this?”, don’t worry, we’ve got you!
What parts of the glass coffee carafe need to be cleaned?
There are two major parts of a coffee carafe; the lid(including the handle) and the glass body, which is the major part of the cleaning process. As the glass carafe is completely see-through, it becomes even more important to clean it from the outside and inside carefully. You are supposed to clean the inner hollow part and the outer lid and body.
How to clean a coffee carafe with different methods?
Considering the fragile and see-through nature of a coffee carafe, even a small stain will be visible to your guests if you do not properly clean it. Even though a carafe is a simple yet elegant container, the cleaning process is not so simple as there are several factors that you need to take into account.
We will be explaining a few safe ways that you can use to clean your glass coffee carafe.
- Using vinegar and baking soda mixture: Combine equal parts of water, vinegar and baking soda until a thick paste is formed. Once done, use this to scrub the stains on your coffee carafe with the help of an old toothbrush. This mixture works best for old stains; if stains are new, then omit vinegar from the mixture.
- Using a dishwashing soap/liquid: Pour a few drops of dishwashing liquid in your carafe and fill it with hot water. Let the liquid stay in it for a few minutes, and then drain the majority of the water and scrub your carafe and rinse with water once done. Also, scrub the lid along with the carafe.
- Using lemon juice, salt and ice: Sprinkle salt on the coffee stains in your carafe, then pour in 1 to 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 cup of ice. Stir well; this way, you’re scrubbing your carafe from the inside. Do this until stains disappear, and then wash with plain water.
- Using a stubborn detergent: If all of the above ways don’t work, then you can use a strong detergent to scrub away the stains on the carafe and the lid and then rinse it with warm water.
What needs your attention when cleaning a glass coffee carafe?
While cleaning your coffee carafe, make sure that you are not too harsh on the glass as it might break and you might lose your beautiful carafe. Secondly, if the stains are not very dark, then do not use vinegar as it might make your glass carafe weaker if used in excess. Finally, don’t think of cleaning it as a chore, have fun with the entire process!
